BEHIND THE SCENES

For Spring/Summer 2027, Marina Hoermanseder takes off into Outer Space. The collection follows a journey through the evolution of space. Female astronauts leave behind a world of matter and enter an unfamiliar realm, where dystopian silhouettes are shaped by the need to protect oneself and adapt to a new environment. Elements of armor are paired with protective gear, while chrome lacquer shines in contrast to icy blue leather. For this collection, we bring back the twisted buckle technique, one of the brand’s most complex and time-intensive craftsmanship methods. Each pattern piece is cut to the shape of the body and connected through a line of twisted buckles rather than traditional seams. Layered leathers in contrasting colors create additional depth and dimension throughout the construction. While much of the collection looks towards the future, it also reflects on the brand’s history. With clear references to Marina’s graduate collection, untreated natural leather takes center stage and creates a striking contrast to glossy finishes. Orthopedically molded pieces are explored through draping, challenging their traditionally sleek appearance. One of the season’s new shapes, the Hyper Physicality Vase, is a satirical take on maximized anatomical aesthetics and critically examines toxic masculinity.

As the journey moves through dark matter, nebula and distant galaxies, signature buckles, decorative rivets and hardware remain central design elements. Shades of brown and beige are paired with vibrant orange, while blue and green Swarovski crystals evoke the depth of the cosmos. Playful charms are used as embroidery throughout campy, colourful looks, celebrating the quintessential Marina Hoermanseder aesthetic. This season also expands the menswear offering with the introduction of the brand’s first strap pants and strap shorts. The collection’s Lunar Landscape technique stretches across three pieces inspired by moon rocks, before the journey reaches its final destination beyond the galaxy. The Alien Vase, the first of its kind, introduces orthopedic headgear and sleeve elements. Inspired by Marina’s time at Alexander McQueen, the look serves as an homage to the iconic Plato’s Atlantis collection. With Outer Space, Marina Hoermanseder celebrates curiosity, imagination and the courage to venture into the unknown. The collection closes by wondering what exists beyond our own imagination, reminding us that creation continues far beyond what we understand. Photos by: Isa Foltin & Philipp Götze
